Ylenia is smart, genuine, and super opinionated. Like, seriously critical. At 22, life threw her a curveball: Charcot-Marie-Tooth disease, CMT4 mutation. But even before she hit her twenties, docs spotted something funky in her nervous system, messing with her arms and legs big time.
Ylenia's not one to hide from reality. She is aware and accepts the disease as part of her identity. The splints, wheelchair, and walker are extensions of her body, but she has not always perceived them as such.
High school was a whole other story. Back entrances, judgmental stares, and those condescending comments? Yeah, she's been there, done that. And don't even get her started on the endless battle to get to the doctor's office.
"But what if I'm not like everyone else?" Ylenia ponders.
